Tech design memory from 'Objectified'
After watching the documentary Objectified by Gary Hustwits. The film explored the ideas of designers around the world and their perspective on design. After I watch it, I felt nostalgic about certain technological creation. For my object I chose to make a model of the first iPhone. The design of this phone has greatly influenced the design of mobile phones in the world. Until today, the design of smart phones has been heavily referenced by the first iPhone
In the film that stood out to me the most was the quote by Jonathan Ive, " Indicator has a value when it is indicating something but if it's not indicating something it shouldn't be there". For iPhone when we observe the design of iPhone, we can first see the screen and the back button, which can realize most of the functions of the phone.
Then the side of the body, distributed shutdown, sound up and down, silent, and sockets. These are easy to miss when looking at the phone with one eye and can only be felt when holding the phone with your hand. This allows the user to focus on the screen and only notice the buttons and jacks on the side when needed, like Jonathan says.
